Texas Bound

March 31 - Raider and I left for Texas from Dan's home in Palmyra. Our first day got us to Cameron, MO about 60 miles north of Kansas City. Not the greatest travel day with the high gusty winds but still better than hanging in Amikville and 2 ft of snow and cold temps.

April 1 - A great day for traveling. We left Cameron, MO at 9 am after breakfast and a Raider run (get business done) Did a 460 mi ride to Paul Valley, OK with a few stops, one at a WallyMart, there the same everywhere. Arrived here in Paul Valley about 4:30, checked into a little low budget motel (can back my truck up to the door). I read the sign wrong, thought it was a AmericInn but turned out to be a American Inn. A balmy 73+ degrees, mixed a cocktail and sat outside, a little tailgate party.

April 2 - Good morning from Paul Valley, OK. 70 degrees here at 7am. Hitting the road shortly and should be in Fredericksburg this aft. 5:00 pm, made it to Fredericksburg. Made the mistake of going thru Austin, won't happen again, traffic is crazy there. Staying at a little Ma & Pa motel (Country Inn & Cottages) just out of town, has TV and a not so quiet air conditioner, it is 80 here, life is good. It's cocktail hour so enough of this chatter. Back later for more exciting news and pictures if there's anything good.

April 3 - Woke up to a overcast day in Fredericksburg and 70 degrees with high today of 87.The day improved in the afternoon, sun came out and got very warm, not complaining, I'll take it. Checked out several RV sites in the area, not to impressed, camp sites were to small and campers were to close for me. Had a short ride to Luckenback, very interesting place. Had a couple Shiner Bocks, met some very nice people some from Wisconsin and a token Viking fan from MN. Attached a few pic's. Finished the night off with a nice dinner at Friedhelm's Bavarian Inn.
I hear there is a snow storm bearing down on Northern Wisconsin, glad I'm down here.
New lodging new town tomorrow night.
Main store in Luckenbach, gift shop in the front and a bar in the rear. Nice lady bartender and she was from Trempealeau, WI
Back door to the Luckenbach Bar

A few Folks sitting around listening to 3 or 4 old guys playing there guitars and singing some tunes.
A great license plate display. I collect license plates so this was pretty cool.
There were a few of these roosters running around the grounds giving there early morning wake up call.

April 4 - Bright sunny morning here in Fredericksburg around 50 degrees with the temp going up to 70+. Left Fredericksburg mid morning, didn't make it far only 10 miles and found a RV park with cabins for rent. Nice cabin kitchen, outdoor gas grill and big screen TV and only a few miles from Luckenbach. My old friends Kirk and Maryann from Houston are coming up for the week-end, party time and another trip to Luckenbach. More later, need a beer. I know it's not 5 o'clock but it's 5 o'clock somewhere.
Cabin # 4 at Texas Wine Country "Yogi Bears Jellystone  Park and RV Campground. All moved in and ready to party. Not your typical Jellystone Campground, very unique place.

Hi Everyone, I'm Yogi and I live right next door to Tom & Raider here in Jellystone Park & Campground. Tom just brought
over a Point Beer for me, it sure is good beer, really makes me smile. How's my old buddy Fred Flintstone up in Squaw Lake, WI

April 5 - Sat morning here at Jellystone, overcast and cool with a high today of 64. It was a late night, my friends Kirk & Maryann rolled in about 10:30 so it took about 4 hrs to get up to date. Coffee time and planning the day. Luckenbach is in the plan for this evening.
It's after 5 and were getting a late start on cocktail hour.  We did a day trip to Wimberley about a hour ride. Some type of festival and craft show going on, lots of stores but we did find a good bar and Maryann got a new pair of fancy cowboy boots. Back at the cabin in Jellystone preparing to cook a ribeye dinner, watch the Badger basketball game then off to Luckenbach to catch the music.
Well, as you know the Badgers lost. I was to sad to go to Luckenbach so Kirk and Maryann went alone.
They were back in less than a hour, I guess it wasn't exciting enough for them.
Meet my dear friends Kirk & Maryann from Houston, TX. I have known them for 20 plus years. We are in a nice bar in Wimberley roaming thru shops looking for great things. Maryann found a pair of cowboy boots which she needed for dancing in Luckenbach tonight.
Back at the cabin in Jellystone during cocktail hour we had to do a photo's.
During our tour in cocktail hour Maryann ran into Yogi and got a little friendly with him.....look at the smile on ole Yogi.

A little while later Mrs Yogi came along and of course Maryann had to introduce herself. In a few minutes Maryann found out Mrs Yogi wasn't really a Mrs. You figure it out.

April 6 - Sunday morning was a little rainy. We had breakfast then Kirk & Maryann headed back to Houston, poor people have to go to work in the morning. I ventured back to Fredyburg for the night. The late afternoon turned partly sunny. Plan on moving tomorrow, time  for new adventures.

April 8 -  Monday was a wasted day traveling around looking for good lodging, never found it and ended up in a dive for the night out of the Hill Country. Got on the internet and searched and found a RV & Cabin Resort on Buchanan Lake in the Hill Country west of Bernet.
Nice one bedroom cabin with kitchen, great few of the lake and the best of all Directv just like back home, just can't get any better than that.
Lake Buchanan. Water level for the lake is down 20 some feet.

April 9 - A bright sunny morning, clears skies with temps going around 80 today.
I guess it's about time I post some pic's of Raider. He is enjoying the trip much better now that we have a home base and out of the motel life, me too.
Beautiful sunset wednesday night over Lake Buchanan. The shoreline was once where I am standing.

April 10 - Today Raider and I checked out Inks Lake State Park. The Park is only a few miles from here. The camp sites were many and very nice, most with water & electric hook-up. Good bathrooms with showers.
 A scene at Inks Lake
Inks Lake. In the Hill Country west of Burnet
A patch of Bluebonnets near Lake Buchanan. Bluebonnet is a name given to any number of species of the genus Lupinus predominantly found in southwestern United States and is collectively the state flower of Texas.

April 12 - Another warm day here in the Hill Country, Upper 80's. Went on a little "back roads" trip. Found a couple neat RV Parks, gated parks with security.
Here's the "Beef". Came across this guy wondering along the road, open cattle range country. Need to drive with care with these boys wondering around.
The Lake Buchanan Dam, The resort I'm staying at is just on the other side of the dam on Lake Buchanan. This pic was taken from a good Texas bar
Found this great Texas bar only a couple miles from my Resort / Lodging, "Reverend Jim's Dam Pub". Great food with a 1 lb burger, outstanding. There claim is "The Best Burger in the Hill Country" This bar should be on the "Pike Lake Chain".

Discovered a very good beer "Ziegen Bock" brewed in Texas. Taking some back with me. A short supply for Amiklodge.

April 16 - Heading back north today. Will be taking my time. Northern Wisconsin is getting dumped on again. It was a good trip to Texas and I plan on coming back this winter season.

April 20 - The above pic shows what I came home, a muddy road into Amikville.

My drive way into the Lodge. 8" of snow, I'll just let it melt.
I know I know, I came home to early. I'm ready to leave already.
